About the “Railway” Collection

SIT has a deep connection with railways, as the predecessor of the affiliated junior and senior high school of SIT was “Tokyo Railway Junior High School” established by the Ministry of Railways; formerly Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
SIT got an offer to donate railway materials to our library in October 2013. To consider its effective use and archival, we established the "Library Research Committee of Railway Technology Material” (renamed from “Committee of Railway Technology Collection” in July 2015). Toyosu library have carried out an advanced implementation of collecting, accepting and stringently organizing the donated materials.

An exhibition space for the Railways Collection- “Shibaura Railway Technology Gallery”- opened in April 2017 as part of opening ceremony of the high school. The vision of a “Technology Gallery” at the high school coincided with the timing of receiving donated materials to university library, with the Railway Research Club of the high school activity in the operation, ensuring the project proceed smoothly.

Currently, the materials are on display at the gallery with the coordination of the high school and university library.
